We would like to introduce 400 Square.

400 Square is the inevitable culmination of a strong community of artistic innovators becoming one, developed by Urban Smart Growth. Located in Franklinton, we are the 400th block of both Rich & Town St, home to 400 West Rich, Strongwater, The Vanderelli Room, and Chromedge Studios. We are the pioneers; we are the creators in this space. Most importantly, we are a collective of businesses in the heart of Franklinton with a like-minded goal of providing and sustaining a thriving hub for creatives. We grow and support the community around us with education and resources, and foster entertainment opportunities in our area.

400 Square is art studios, galleries, weddings, festivals, markets, co-working, but also food, drink, performances, and so much more! With the launch of 400 Square, Director of Operations Seth Stout has led his team to develop new offerings for each of our growing spaces. Food and Beverage Director Lauren Conrath and Events Director Molly Blundred have worked diligently to evolve the Strongwater brand. On the artist side, Community Director Stephanie McGlone and Art Director AJ Vanderelli are facilitating exciting programming for all ages and abilities..

Strongwater Food & Spirits also has a new logo that can be spotted on the brand new t-shirts! Additionally, the restaurant is getting a new paint scheme and just announced a new summer food menu alongside a fantastic cocktail list. There are future plans as well that include expanding the kitchen to facilitate more food options, including a separate catering kitchen for events. The Strongwater Events spaces are also evolving, stay tuned as our two spaces develop their own identities and programming.

Although we’re obsessed with our new look, it doesn’t mean that we can’t still roll up our sleeves and get sh*t done! For those of you who want to learn a new craft or hone an old one, 400 Square is offering new workshops in the studios! These include aerial dances classes, Bob Ross painting classes, print-making, jewelry-making and more! Outside of workshops, we have open studios twice a month for our Welcome Wednesday evenings. It’s like Franklinton Friday, just a bit more low-key. We’re also looking forward to our 400 Market on the last Sunday of every month! This Market is a culturally-oriented event created to provide a selling home for local artisans, crafters, and merchants. At its heart, 400 West Rich is still an artist’s home. It houses 101 artist studios and 3 galleries. While you’re at 400 Square, make sure to ask about our upstairs co-working space! We’re proud to house 25 startup and established businesses fostering collaboration in Franklinton.

Chromedge Studios, housed in the historic B&T Metals factory, was built out of the demand for more art studios. It’s 27 studios contains an even wider spectrum of distinct creatives. The 2,500 sq. ft. second floor, known as The Photo Lab is a haven for photographers and producers alike. It’s a one of a kind space, offering lighting packages in partnership with Midwest Photo Exchange, unique gallery exhibitions, and pop-up programming,

The newest addition to 400 Square is The Vanderelli Room, created by Alicia Jean Vanderelli in 2015. Continue experiencing the curation and programming you’ve come to love at The Vanderelli Room while exploring the other galleries at 400. The Promenade Gallery is the belly of 400, featuring local Columbus creatives and artists throughout 400 Square, this gallery hosts thoughtful exhibitions, immersive installations, and playful experiences. The Bridge Gallery exhibits artists and arts organizations outside of the neighborhood, connecting communities and building creative relationships. Meanwhile, the upstairs No.2 Gallery features the widely varied artists within 400 West Rich and Chromedge Studios and their high-quality work.

You can also catch live music in Franklinton! The Strongwater Events space is opening every Monday evening for our new Music Monday Series! Swing in Monday nights for live music! 400 Square is also excited to announce a partnership with the Columbus Music Commision, with the goal of creating a music epicenter in Franklinton. We have several upcoming festivals, and we are delighted to join the Columbus Arts Festival! Arts Fest is moving right into our backyard, and our spaces will be open to explore during the festival. Check out our new look and discover all that 400 Square has to offer during Arts Fest! We can’t wait to create with you, eat with you, dance with you, grow with you. Welcome to 400 Square.
